Interesting Boxelder Bug Facts & Information
Length: | 12.5 millimetres (0.49 in). |
Colour: | Dark Brown or Black. |
Other Features: | Red Wing markings. |
Like its name suggests, the boxelder bug is a pest that lives primarily in the namesake box elder tree. However, they feed on the leaves of maple and ash tress as well in warmer seasons and then seek the insides of homes as the weather turns colder. These bugs are black with red ‘stripes’ along the sides and the thorax.
Reproduction:
The eggs are laid in the tree species described above. They molt through several different stages before they become adults. Knowing as much as possible about their life cycles is important to efficient Toronto pest control. The colour of these eggs is usually rust-red or even brown so they are easily camouflaged against the backdrop of the host tree. These eggs usually hatch after only a few days and the resulting nymphs are very similar in appearance to the adults but of course much smaller.

Toronto Pest Control:
As mentioned above, boxelder bugs look for warm places to live when the colder weather hits and that can mean you’ll need to take steps to prevent an infestation in your home. So if you noticed boxelder bugs in your home or work it is better to call Pestend Pest Control now to avoid more costly extermination when the problem has spread.
They can multiply under the right conditions so you’ll want to be proactive when looking at the right pest control techniques and consider moving or pruning the trees they prefer from around you home. Remember to take into account the facts that adults can fly short distances from locations onto your property and that the female box elder tree is more susceptible to infestation.
